Where to stay in Prayagraj

Prayagraj has everything from pilgrim dharamshalas beside the ghats to business hotels in Civil Lines. We list areas and types of stay rather than specific hotels, because room availability and prices here change constantly — and dramatically during the Mela.

Pick the area first

Civil Lines

Best for restaurants, cafés, banks and the main bus stand. The widest range of hotels in the city.

Near Prayagraj Junction

Convenient for early trains and budget stays. Noisier, and the lanes get very busy.

Daraganj and Sangam side

Closest to the Sangam ghats and the Mela ground. Mostly simple stays, dharamshalas and guest houses.

Old city (Chowk, Katra)

Walking distance from markets and street food. Rooms are usually basic.

Types of stay

Hotels

From budget lodges to a small number of mid-range and business hotels, concentrated in Civil Lines.

Guest houses and homestays

Scattered across residential areas; usually booked through online platforms.

Dharamshalas and ashrams

Pilgrim accommodation near the ghats, often very inexpensive with simple facilities and their own rules.

Tent city (Mela season only)

During Magh Mela and Kumbh, tented accommodation is set up on the flood plain, from basic to premium. Availability and booking channels are announced by the Mela authority each season.

We do not list hotel names, tariffs or contact numbers. We will only publish a stay once we have confirmed its details directly — and we will never take payment or commission for a listing.

Before you book

  • Confirm the distance to the Sangam or the station, not just the area name.
  • Ask whether the rate includes taxes, and whether ID is needed for every guest (usually yes).
  • Check for hot water in winter — Prayagraj winters are genuinely cold.
  • Get the cancellation terms in writing on Mela dates.

Mela and bathing days

On major bathing dates, rooms across the city fill weeks ahead and prices rise sharply. Traffic restrictions can also mean the last few kilometres are on foot. Plan arrival a day early where you can.
