Transportation
Prayagraj is a major railway city first and everything else second. Trains reach it from almost everywhere in north India, and inside the city short hops are almost always by e-rickshaw.
By train
Prayagraj Junction (station code PRYJ) is the main station and one of the busiest in northern India. Other stations in the city include Prayagraj Chheoki, Naini, Prayagraj Sangam, Subedarganj and Prayag. During the Mela, trains are often diverted to the smaller stations to spread crowds.
By air
Prayagraj Airport is at Bamrauli, on the western side of the city. It handles domestic flights, and the schedule changes seasonally — check with the airline for current routes.
By bus
State roadways buses run from the Civil Lines bus stand and the Zero Road bus stand, connecting Lucknow, Varanasi, Kanpur, Ayodhya and nearby districts.
By road
Prayagraj sits on major highways towards Varanasi, Lucknow, Kanpur and Rewa, and is linked to the Purvanchal Expressway network via connecting roads.
Train timings, flight routes and bus schedules change. Always check the railway enquiry service, your airline or the roadways counter on the day of travel.
E-rickshaw
The most common way to move short distances. Fares are negotiated; agree before starting.
Auto-rickshaw
Shared autos run fixed routes; private hire is also easy to find.
City bus
Limited city bus service on main corridors.
App cabs
Ride-hailing apps operate in the city, with patchier availability in the old lanes.
Cycle rickshaw
Still useful in the old city where larger vehicles cannot pass.
Boats
Boats at the Sangam are for the confluence itself, not for transport. Agree the fare and insist on life jackets.
The traffic plan is issued fresh by the district administration each season — follow the official notice for that year, not last year's map.
