Chowk
The traditional heart of old-city trade: textiles, utensils, jewellery lanes and wholesale shops.
Civil Lines
The organised, modern side — branded stores, a mall, bookshops, cafés and showrooms on wide streets.
Zero Road
Hardware, electrical goods, general wholesale and transport-linked trade.
Johnstonganj
A dense bazaar area for daily goods, dry fruit, spices and household items.
Daraganj and the ghat lanes
Puja items, rudraksha and religious goods for visitors going to the Sangam.
Market opening days and hours vary, and many lanes have a weekly closed day. We have not published specific timings or shop names until we can confirm them locally.
Allahabadi guava
In season through the winter; sold by weight in the fruit markets.
Namkeen and winter sweets
Gajak, rewri and local namkeen, strongest around the old-city shops.
Puja and ritual items
Copper vessels, rudraksha, thread and containers for Sangam water.
Books
The university area has a long tradition of new and second-hand bookshops.
Cotton and handloom cloth
Textile lanes in Chowk sell by the metre as well as ready-made.
Brass and steel utensils
A traditional Chowk speciality, often bought for weddings.
Most markets are a short e-rickshaw ride from the Sangam and the main temples, so shopping fits easily around a morning at the ghats.
