History

Akshayavat is mentioned in Hindu religious literature as an eternal tree at Prayag that survives the dissolution of the world. For long periods it lay inside the fort with restricted access.

Pilgrims consider darshan of Akshayavat an important part of a visit to Prayag, especially alongside bathing at the Sangam.
