History
The confluence has been a place of pilgrimage since ancient times and is referred to in Hindu scriptures as Prayag, a site of sacrifice and ritual bathing. It has remained the focus of the city's religious life through every period of its history.
Religious & cultural significance
Bathing at the Sangam is considered especially meritorious, above all during Magh Mela and Kumbh Mela. Pilgrims perform snan, tarpan and other rituals here throughout the year.
How to reach
Auto-rickshaw, e-rickshaw or taxi from Prayagraj Junction (roughly 8–10 km depending on route), then a short walk or boat ride to the confluence point.
Safety & travel tips
- Agree the boat fare before boarding and prefer boats with life jackets.
- Keep valuables minimal and secure in crowded periods.
- During Mela days follow the crowd-flow and police directions at the ghats.
